How we score
Our bar was fixed and published before we rated anything. It applies to every product the same way, and brands can't pay to change a result.
A product is listed only if it passes all four
- Quality. Independent, accredited testing confirms the label is accurate and the product is free of contaminants.
- Honesty. No disease claims, no overstated benefits, no hidden doses.
- Evidence grade A or B for the benefit it claims.
- Dose fit. The amount, form, and timing match what worked in trials.
How the grade works
We rate two things separately: how big the effect is compared with placebo, and how certain the evidence is. Certainty uses an adapted version of GRADE, the system used by Cochrane. Where sleep medicine has agreed thresholds for a noticeable change, we use the ones the American Academy of Sleep Medicine set before analysing its data.
| Certainty / Effect | Large | Moderate | Small | Negligible |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| High | A | A | C | D |
| Moderate | A | B | C | D |
| Low | C | C | D | D |
| Very low | D | D | D | D |
Nothing works for everyone
Every product shows the likely range of its effect, not just one number, and a note on who the evidence applies to. When the research says little about a group, we say so.
